Founded in 1995 Sussex Pianos Ltd is a truly family run business in the heart of Sussex. We are passionate about acoustic pianos and have a vast amount of knowledge which we are happy to share with anyone who needs help, be it for an entry level, mid range or professional piano.

Old wood meets new carbon composite. We have a set of Ronsen Weickert hammers, specially drilled and shaped in America for us by Brooks Ltd. We have never used this felt before but have heard great things. These shanks are WNG flex2 so are only 4mm diametre shanks instead of standard 5.4mm. Getting ready for the restring. This Broadwood needed a rescale due to very high tension, and I had to order new XM plated 14g wire for this as most of it is Guage 14 Due to the scale. When repairing a board, we like to strip the top layer of varnish and heat the board using infra red heaters. This dries the board and opens any cracks wider so we can repair. It also directs heat to where we want it. Most modern homes are so well insulated, a few with under floor heating, that we don't want to restring and see a crack a few years down the road due to low humidity. These pianos were built for a higher level of humidity than today's pianos. Around 50% Relative Humidity is recommended for pianos, and a little higher for older pianos in original state. ...
