Protecting your piano from humidity changes is vital in order to keep it in tune and in good health

We have products to help protect your investment. Below are products to protect your piano from extremes of humidity. The automatic system from Dampp-chaser is an excellent kit which is the ultimate protection for your piano and fully automatic monitoring.

In dry conditions, where there is little humidity, the piano can be damaged by drying out. This can usually be contributed by central heating, under floor heating etc. Wood moves as it takes in or gives out moisture to keep an equilibrium state to its environment. All wooden parts of the piano, for example the action, soundboard, wrest plank, case etc. start to shrink, causing problems like loose pins, soundboard cracks and an indecisive action response. By fitting a humidifier, a long tube filled with specially formed sponge and once immersed in water, the piano can be protected by these conditions. This device cost will save the piano from future repair costs.

If humidity is high, then the action becomes sluggish, strings rust, case finish becomes dull and the action felts start to deteriorate. High humidity can easily be found in poorly heated rooms, Churches & halls, near Kitchens or other high humid environments. By fitting a damp chaser, a low voltage element encased in a metal tube, designed for the piano, this will protect the piano by gently heating the air inside so that no damage occurs. Sticky keys and hammers are a common result of high humidity and a damaged piano can take a long time recover and may need repairs. The de-humidifier comes in a standard length to fit all pianos or an extendable version to fit the entire length of the piano. We recommend the humidistat heater kit.

Dehumidifier: when humidity levels rise, it distributes moisture away from your piano using warm air currents. Humidistat: this is the brain of the System which senses whether the wooden parts of your piano are too moist or too dry and automatically switches the System to function as a Dehumidifier or Humidifier to protect your piano from damage caused by changes in humidity.

Humidifier: moisturizes the dry wood of your piano when the humidity drops; a low water warning light indicates when the Humidifier needs additional water; refilling the Humidifier is simple and easy. 3-Light LED Panel: features a green light marked POWER to indicate the System has electrical power and a yellow light marked WATER which blinks when the Humidifier needs water. If the System includes the optional Smart Bracket on the Humidifier tank, the red light marked PADS will blink when the pads are no longer wicking water, indicating they should be replaced. Watering Tube: allows you to provide water to the Humidifier when the yellow light on the 3-Light LED Panel indicates a need for water.
