New features include: a new iron frame, round taper soundboard, rescaled stringing, new hammers, up scaled components including AA grade Alaskan sitka spruce soundboards and solid Maple action parts. Fandrich approached the challenge to produce an inexpensive piano that would sound like an expensive one, from reactions from over the world, he's certainly done that. A selection of 20 Weber grand and upright pianos have been installed at the David Koch Theater at New York’s famed Lincoln Center, where they will be used by the both the New York City Ballet Company and the New York City Opera. The Koch Theater has just reopened this season after undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, and the new Weber pianos represent part of the investment.
Bass Bridges The old cantilevers have been removed and replaced with direct coupled bridges resulting in increased energy transfer efficiency improved low bass response and clarity.
Soundboard and Ribs The assymetrical shape has been replaced by symetrical, allowing a thinner, more flexible soundboard around the bass bridges, resulting in increased bass clarity & tone. Radical new cutoff bars improve the soundboard shape leading to improved sustain in the tenor & treble sections. All soundboards are now constructed of AA solid Alaskan Sitka spruce, with AAA grade on the Albert Weber series of pianos. A new rib design results in a more efficient soundboard response with improved sustain and bass to tenor tone balance.
String Design All the models have been completely rescaled, with the bridges moved to give a longer backscale length which in turn gives the bass bridge more freedom of motion leading to improved bass sustain and clarity.
Hammer and Action The hammers are now made using a special cold-press process which protects the hammer head felt from heat damage, preserving the felt resilience, improving pianissimo and timbral dynamics. Many action parts have been upgraded with hard maple, top quality bushing cloth and Royal George felt hammers. A redesign of the action has resulted in a much lighter and more positive touch. |
